Racism in Medicine

Family physicians are in a position to combat systemic racism. To do so, we must first understand what it means to practise cultural safety and humility. Dr. Behn Smith explains and defines white fragility, white privilege, white immunity and structural racism and how these mechanisms lead to health inequities.

Dr. Danièle Behn Smith is the Aboriginal health physician advisor for the province of British Columbia. She works alongside Dr. Bonnie Henry to provide independent advice and support to the Ministry of Health on First Nations and Indigenous health issues.
