The Empower category celebrates family physicians who foster the next generation through teaching excellence, educational leadership, and mentorship that advances family medicine. Our recipients demonstrate the profound impact of investing in future family physicians.

  • Dr. Ian Kirby was recognized for his humility and dedication to his peers. "What sets Dr. Kirby apart is his humility and dedication to his peers. Despite his senior rank and vast experience, he remains approachable and genuinely invested in the success of those he mentors."
  • Dr. James Card was honoured for his commitment to the next generation. "Dr. Card deserves recognition for his dedication to the next generation of family doctors."
  • Dr. Simon Moore was celebrated as "a generous mentor who supports learners with sincerity, humility, and genuine care. His guidance extends beyond clinical content to leadership, professionalism, and career development."

Advocate: Bold Leadership Drives System Change

The Advocate category recognizes family physicians who shape health policy and drive systems change, creating a more equitable, patient-centered health care system.

  • Dr. Lorelei Johnson and Dr. Amy Cuthbertson were nominated together for their leadership in preserving and renewing maternity care that serves thousands of families every year. "Their calm, pragmatic leadership during COVID surges, staffing gaps, and system strain helped preserve the continuity of perinatal care for families who needed it most. It is the north star to which all leaders should strive to achieve."
  • Dr. Goldis Mitra was recognized as "a phenomenal advocate and leader for health care system change both in our province and country, and she will be shaping health care policy for a more equitable and patient-centered health care system for decades to come."
  • Dr. Jennifer Kask was honoured as "a well-respected family doctor - loved by her patients, appreciated and relied upon by her colleagues."
