BC Family Doctor Month

BC Family Doctor Month

May is Family Doctor Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible contributions of family physicians across BC.

Family doctors care for patients across every stage of life. They navigate complexity, build long-term relationships, and provide continuity in a system that often feels fragmented.

They see the full picture – not just symptoms, but humanity. Not just moments, but lifetimes. And their impact doesn’t stop at the clinic or hospital. It creates a community-wide ripple effect that has the power to shape healthier futures across generations.

Every May 19, we mark Family Doctor Day to recognize the commitment, compassion, and care of BC family physicians. But one day simply doesn’t reflect the depth of their impact.

BCCFP Awards Celebration

Our Awards Celebration is the only event in BC dedicated to recognizing and championing the vital work of family physicians and family practice residents across the province.

Kevin Lim will guide us through the night as our charismatic host, bringing warmth and energy to the celebration. We will also have a welcome reception featuring canapés and conversation, where you can connect with colleagues before dinner.

And during the Ceremony, a thoughtfully prepared dinner will be served as we celebrate the 2026 BC Family Physician of the Year, the My Family Doctor Award recipients, and the residents receiving this year's awards.

Advocacy Day at the Legislature

On May 19th, during Family Doctor day, we will be visiting the BC Legislature in Victoria and meet face-to-face with MLAs and government leaders. Our goal? To advocate for meaningful change that strengthens family medicine and patient care for the long term.

Family physicians create a ripple effect throughout communities, and the wider health care system. When they’re supported, hospitals see fewer admissions, specialists receive less referrals, and patients experience better health outcomes. That’s why we’re advocating for smarter spending – not more spending. Refocusing resources to enable effective primary care delivery is a cost-saving investment that benefits everyone.

This is about more than budgets or policies. It’s about the people behind them and the impact that our achievable solutions can have on the lives of family physicians and British Columbians.
