Membership Value
Besides recognizing outstanding family physicians on a provincial and national level, membership provides the BCCFP with much needed funding to bring forth initiatives to promote Family Medicine, advocate on behalf of family physicians and support continuing medical education and primary care research.
Promoting Family Medicine to Medical Students
The BCCFP works closely with the University of British Columbia Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) to promote Family Medicine to medical students as a career choice. Events are held regularly to bring attention to the personal fulfillment and many opportunities that being a family physician provides.
Downloadable Patient Information Forms
From "Acne" to "Wounds Care", the CFPC provides downloadable patient information forms, in a wide variety of topics, to help you in your practice. These succinct and easy to read sheets have been quite effective in answering many common patient questions. Visit the Patient Education Program section of the CFPC website to find over 60 patient information forms.
Special Projects
The BCCFP is coordinating the Chronic Disease Management project, which is directed at facilitating patient and physician behaviour with respect to treating and managing chronic disease, by focusing from physician?s agenda to the patient?s. If these patients can be motivated to change behaviour and their approach to their disease, to manage it in conjunction with their physicians rather than accessing expensive and intermittent emergency and hospital care, both patients and the health care system will benefit.
Research Funding
The BCCFP Research Award was established by the CFPC's Research Education Fund to provide financial support to members, residents and students in the development and dissemination of new knowledge and skills in order to improve the quality of comprehensive, patient-centered community-based health care for all Canadians. Tens of thousands of dollars has been put aside to financially assist these researchers with their projects.
Health Policy and Planning
The BCCFP represents family physicians on committees and task forces to ensure that the perspective of BC family physicians is taken into consideration and addressing areas of concern for their patients. We are regularly called upon by all levels of government to represent family physicians.
Continuing Medical Education
The BCCFP reviews and accredits hundreds of MAINPRO events each year and also organizes the popular Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) workshops. Join us for our Annual Scientific Assembly each year that brings together noted presenters from many areas of expertise.
