This course is taught by BC Family Physicians who have been approved as ALSO instructors. It meets the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been accredited for 8 MAINPRO-C credits.

The Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) course is an intensive two day course designed to help standardize and improve training in obstetrical emergencies and to provide a review of the emergencies associated with pregnancy and delivery.
It is designed to enhance cognitive and procedural skills and to help manage obstetrical emergencies. It is directed primarily toward maternity care providers including family physicians, nurses and certified nurse midwifes.
The course includes a required syllabus reading, lectures and hands-on workshops. Evaluation is by a written objective exam on content and a skills assessment using ?mega-delivery? simulations. Those who meet the criteria are awarded a certificate of completion valid for five years.
